If I Had To Start My Business Again From Zero..

I’ve done a few podcasts recently, and I frequently get asked

“What would you do differently if you were starting from scratch?”

Quite a few things to be honest…

Here are the five most important ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿป

 

๐Ÿ’ท - I wouldn’t price my time by the hour
I would start with a package that was four figures minimum.
Hourly pricing opens you up to client negotiation.  It also gives clients an opportunity to only book you for a singular hour.  An hour on its own is very rarely transformational.  Most clients need frequent touchpoints & check-ins to achieve their goals. 

โฐ - I wouldn’t waste time building a course to sell on its own.
I would build one whilst getting live client feedback.  Course completion rates are low.  Very low.  Plus, you could waste energy by populating your course with things that users don’t necessarily need.  Start off with the bare essentials and give yourself a few months to work out what your live clients actually need to succeed. 

โ™ป๏ธ - I wouldn’t make content specific to one platform
I would make evergreen content for multiple platforms.  After 6 months of being on Instagram, I fancied a change.  So I started LinkedIn. Unluckily for me, I’d created all of my IG content, with an IG focus.  Guess who had to start afresh?  It took a long time.  Remember - a social platform is just a vehicle to deliver your content.  Every once in a while, you might fancy a new vehicle.  However, the destination remains the same.

๐Ÿงช - I wouldn’t listen to the so-called “experts” and niche down too far
I would keep my content quite broad and experiment more.  Especially at the start.  Remember → nothing is nailed down.  You can change at any moment.  But niching down (I hate that phrase) will result in you eliminating large chunks of potential audience.  Whilst I don’t advocate selling everything to anyone, going too deep too early is a grave mistake.  

๐Ÿง  - I wouldn’t let my ego tell me I could do it all alone
I would invest heavily in a trusted mentor a few steps ahead of me.  I have to keep my ego in check daily.  Once you realise that suppressing your ego is a must, you become more open to opportunities.  No one is so rich that they can afford to not explore other people’s point of view.  Go out there and find someone who has done what you want to do.
