How to add a custom button to your LinkedIn profile

You know those "Visit my website" buttons on people's profiles.
Here's how to add one to yours (+ show it on every post)...

Add it in 4 steps

  1. Click the pencilOn your profile, on your computer
  2. Find Custom buttonScroll down, then click Edit
  3. Pick a buttonFrom LinkedIn's options + add your link
  4. Show it everywhereFlick the toggle on, then click Done
01 · The setup

Where to find it

On your computer, go to your profile and click the pencil icon.

Scroll down until you see the Custom button section, then click Edit.

You have to choose from LinkedIn's preferred options, so you can't just write a button that says "give me your money". Pick one, add your link + you're set.

Fair warning: you need to be on some form of LinkedIn Premium or a paid package to add a custom button.

Book an appointmentBigger ask

Asks a stranger to commit to a call before they know you.

Visit my websiteLow friction

An easy click. They can look around + decide what to do next.

02 · Which button

Go low friction

I've chosen a really low friction option, "Visit my website", rather than "Book an appointment".

There's a perceived amount of risk with every click people take on the internet. The smaller the ask, the more people take it.

03 · The cool bit

Put it on every post

You can actually feature your custom button on every single post you put out, which means you can push people to take the next step.

Mine goes straight to my link page, where people can choose whether they want to work with me directly or binge YouTube.

To switch it on, toggle "Display on posts, messages and search results", then click Done.
